DWAI Arrest After Gold Mercedes Stolen From Motel Hits Another Car

The driver now faces drug, criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest charges, as well as several traffic tickets.

KINGSTON, NY — State troopers say an escalating series of bad decisions ended in a crash.

New York State Police say that on October 3, shortly before 8 a.m., troopers responded to a two-car accident with injuries on Route 28 in the Town of Kingston.

Troopers say an investigation found that a 2005 gold Mercedes, reported stolen from the Budget 19 Motel on Route 28 in Kingston, was involved in a collision with a 2021 Ford.

While speaking with the driver of the Mercedes, troopers determined that he was impaired. He was then arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs.

The man was taken to Kingston Health Alliance Hospital by ambulance for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.

26-year-old Kevin Johnson, of Kingston, was also charged with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, third degree criminal possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and several traffic tickets.

He is scheduled to appear in Town of Kingston Court on October 15.
