Fire Department Treasurer Stole $400K From Company: NYSP

MONROE, NY — A Hudson Valley fire department treasurer was accused of stealing company funds.

The New York State Police said Ian D. Harriton, 28, of Monroe, was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree grand larceny, falsify business records and second-degree forgery, all felonies.

An investigation found that while Harriton was treasurer of the Monroe Lakeside Fire and Rescue Company, police said he stole more than $400,000 for personal use.

The theft came to the attention of the fire company's president when it was discovered that fire department bills were delinquent for several months, according to authorities.

Harriton was released on an appearance ticket.
