Florida Man Arrested For Decade-Old Sex Abuse: Police

SAUGERTIES, NY — A Florida man faces a sex abuse charge from more than a decade ago. State Police at Highland arrested of Jason Awal, 43, of Port St. Lucie, FL for first-degree sexual abuse, a felony. Awal was taken into custody Sept. 5 from the result of a warrant investigation.

The incidents occurred more than 10 years ago when the victims were less than 13 years old at the time of the crime.

Awal was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Court and sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail or $200,000 bond.

The State Police were assisted by the Town of Newburgh Police Department.
