Forged Checks Lead To Arrest Of Amenia Woman: Police

The woman is accused of creating, forging and cashing the checks.

MILLBROOK, NY — A Dutchess County woman was arrested for creating and cashing fake checks at the Bank of Millbrook. State Police said Abigail M. Murphy, 26, of Amenia, was charged with nine counts of second-degree forgery, third-degree grand larceny and nine counts of first-degree falsifying business records, all felonies.

Investigators said Murphy had created nine fraudulent business checks and forged the owner’s signature.

She then cashed the checks — totaling $7,500 — at the Bank of Millbrook, police said.

The bank helped the State Police during the investigation and provided photographic evidence of the cashing of the checks.

Murphy was arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Justice Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail or $40,000 bond.

She was scheduled appear before the Town of Washington Justice Court Sept. 22.
