Fugitive Nabbed In Sting On Suspected Drug Operation In Orange County: Police

NEW WINDSOR, NY — A raid at a suspected drug house led to the apprehension of a wanted man, according to officials in Orange County.

On Tuesday, detectives from the Town of New Windsor Police Department and the Town of Cornwall Police Department executed a search warrant at a property on Route 9W, in the Town of Cornwall. The raid was the culmination of a multi-month fugitive and narcotics investigation, according to authorities.

The Town of New Windsor Police K-9 Unit assisted with the search. K-9 Duke, positively indicated for the presence of narcotics. This led to the recovery of around 71 grams of crack cocaine and 40 glassine envelopes containing heroin, along with narcotics packaging materials, scales and cash, according to cops.

In addition, 54-year-old Michael Darrigo, of Cornwall, was arrested and arraigned on an open Orange County Criminal Court warrant. He was remanded to Orange County Jail.

"This case is a direct result of months of tireless investigative work, coordination, and commitment to keeping our community safe," Town Supervisor Stephen A. Bedetti said in a statement. "I want to personally thank our Detectives and Patrol Officers for their unwavering dedication, as well
as our K-9 Unit and Officer Bell for their critical role in this operation."

Bedetti also extended his appreciation to the Town of Cornwall Police Department and the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

"Public safety is strongest when agencies work together, and this operation is a prime example of that cooperation
producing meaningful results for our residents," Bedetti said.
"Let this serve as a warning to anyone involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics — this behavior will not be tolerated in the Town of New Windsor. If you choose to engage in this activity in our community, you will be pursued, investigated, and held fully accountable under the law. Our Police Department remains vigilant, and we will continue to do
everything in our power to protect the safety and quality of life of our residents."
