Flash Flood Watch Issued Wednesday For Mid-Hudson Valley: UPDATE

The flash flood watch is in addition to the hazardous weather outlook issued earlier.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties. It is in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon into the evening.

Thunderstorms will be capable of producing torrential downpours resulting in rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, the NWS said.

Heavy rainfall rates could lead to flash flooding, especially in urban, poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Also locations that have received heavy rainfall in the past few weeks will be susceptible for flash flooding.


POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Another day, another Hazardous Weather Outlook for parts of the mid-Hudson Valley. The National Weather Service updated its outlook at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday that Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties can expect scattered thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon. There is a marginal risk for some of the storms to become severe. The main threats are gusty winds and large hail.

The weather service said a flash flood watch may be issued Tuesday afternoon.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms is likely for areas mainly north of I-90 late Tuesday night, with locally heavy rainfall possible.

The NWS said additional periods of showers and thunderstorms are likely Thursday through Friday, with the potential for heavy rainfall and localized ponding of water on roadways and significant standing water in low lying areas.

There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms Thursday mainly south of I-90.

A chance of thunderstorms also exists for Sunday and Monday.
