Home COVID Test Kits Given Out In Orange County Recalled

County officials said the vendor claimed the kits were FDA approved for use in the United States.

GOSHEN, NY — Home COVID-19 test kits distributed by Orange County have been recalled.

The county's Department of General Services said Friday that the Flowflex SARS-COV-2 antigen rapid test kits that were distributed for self-testing in the towns of Wallkill and New Windsor Thursday were recalled by the manufacturer from distribution in the United States.

James Burpoe, the county's commissioner of general services, said the vendor claimed that the kits were authorized by the Food and Drug Administration for U.S. markets.

"We have learned they are not FDA authorized, but are European Medicines Agency approved for distribution in Europe," he said. "This appears to be nothing more than a trade and pricing dispute having nothing to do with the efficacy and safety of the product."

Any resident who received a Flowflex test in Wallkill or New Windsor can exchange that kit for a new one at a later date.
