Hopewell Junction Man Accused Of Welfare Fraud

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, NY — A Dutchess County man was accused of stealing Medicaid benefits. The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said Ahmad A. Khatib, 32, of Hopewell Junction, was arrested March 21 and charged with third-degree welfare fraud, a felony.

An investigation by the sheriff's office detective division, in conjunction with the Investigations Division of the Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services, found that Khatib illegally obtained more than $20,000 in Medicaid benefits between January 2014 and January 2017 by concealing the fact that he was receiving other unreported income.

He was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court and released to reappear April 4.
