Hudson Man Accused Of Heroin Possession

Police said the man faces two felony and two misdemeanor charges.

CORNWALL, NY — A Hudson man was accused of having heroin after a traffic stop in the Town of Cornwall. State police said, around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a car on I-87 was stopped for multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

While talking to the driver, troopers found probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.

A passenger, Zachary A. Lewis, 28, of Hudson, was found to be in possession of about 54 grams of heroin, police said.

Lewis attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by the trooper and was taken into custody.

Lewis was taken to the Newburgh barracks where he was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, both felonies, and resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, misdemeanors.

He was released on appearance tickets returnable to Town of Cornwall Court June 10.
