Indiana Pair Accused Of Illegal Drug, Weapon Possession

Police said the handgun was reported as stolen.

AUSTERLITZ, NY — Two Indiana residents were arrested after being accused of having illegal drugs and handgun possession in Columbia County.

The New York State Police said, around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, troopers conducted a traffic stop of a 2020 Dodge Charger for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of Austerlitz.

An investigation found Danyell D. Johnson, 27, and Latoya M. Moore, 33, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, were in possession of about 15.5 grams of MDMA, 4.14 grams of methadone and a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm handgun, which was reported stolen out of Greenwood, Indiana.

Both were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (high capacity ammunition feeding device), fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal contempt, misdemeanors.

Additionally, Johnson was charged with criminal contempt for violating a court order barring him from possessing any firearm, police said. Moore was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, for having the methadone, according to police.

The pair was arraigned in the Town of Austerlitz Court.

Johnson was sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail. Moore was sent to the jail in lieu of $2,000 bail or $4,000 bond.
