Injured Black Bear Helped By Police, Wildlife Center
The bear, which was found on the highway, appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle.

PLEASANT VALLEY, NY — A black bear that had been injured on Route 44 in the Town of Pleasant Valley Thursday was helped to get back into the woods by a team effort. State police said troopers were sent to the scene of the injured animal, as were state Environmental Conservation Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and a wildlife rehabilitator from Friends of the Feathered & Furry Wildlife Center.
The bear was unresponsive when found, but had no obvious external wounds. It appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle, police said.
A representative from the wildlife center provided medical attention to the injured bear, and after a recovery period, the bear was moved via a blanket to a nearby wooded area.
