Lagrange Man Threatened To Use Gun In Robbery: Police

Police said he fled from the supermarket on foot with $2,500 in cash.

LAGRANGE, NY — A Dutchess County man was accused of robbing a supermarket Tuesday by pretending he had a gun. The New York State Police said Zackary R. Beck, 30, of Lagrange, was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony.

Police said troopers were called around 9:15 a.m. to the TOPS Friendly Market in the town of Lagrange for a report of a robbery.

Store employees said Beck threatened to use a gun, which was not displayed, when he demanded money, according to police

The clerk gave him $2,500 in cash, after which he fled on foot, authorities said.

Police determined that Beck acted as if he had a weapon, and he was taken into custody at his home.

A search warrant led to the recovery of the money, authorities said.

Beck was arraigned in the Town of Lagrange Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.

He is next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 5.
