Log Truck Rollover Causes 9-Car Pileup As Rescuers Race To Save Trapped Drivers

GOSHEN, NY — A tense scene unfolded Wednesday afternoon after a pileup involving a loaded tractor trailer and eight other vehicles.

Route 17A in Goshen was reopened Wednesday evening after the major multi-vehicle accident involving a rollover tractor trailer carrying logs. The crash took place around 2:47 p.m.

Town of Goshen Police Department officers found a scene involving nine vehicles. The driver of the log truck was pinned inside the cab, and the driver of a second vehicle was also trapped — that vehicle had a pregnant woman and a rear-seat passenger inside.

Fire departments, led by the Florida Fire Department Chief, began life-saving measures and complex extrications of victims. They used hydraulic rescue equipment to free both trapped drivers. A total of six patients were taken to two area hospitals following the crash.

The Town of Goshen Police Department thanked all responding agencies for their coordinated efforts and the public for their patience during the incident. Several agencies provided assistance at the scene, including the Orange County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, the Florida Fire Department, the Goshen Fire Department, the Pine Island Fire Department, Goshen EMS, Hatzolah EMS, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
