Man Tries To Get In Woman's Car; Police Ask Public For Help

Red Hook police are reviewing surveillance video from the business district in an effort to identify a suspect.

RED HOOK, NY — A suspicious incident in the village of Red Hook has led police to ask for the public's help.

Red Hook police said, around 8 a.m. Friday, a woman reported that she had parked her car in the lot across from the Church Street Nursery School when an unknown man approached the car and tried to open the passenger side door.

The woman told the man "no" in an attempt to get him to leave, but he again tried to pull the locked door open.

Police said the woman put her car in reverse and drove to the police station to report the incident.

Officers canvassed the area within minutes but didn't come up with any suspects.

The man was described as being in his mid-20s, with a medium build and brown hair. He was wearing a tan-colored Carhartt winter coat and dark-colored winter hat.

Police are reviewing surveillance video in the business district but are asking any residents who have video cameras or doorbell cameras to review their footage.

The Red Hook police wanted to remind residents to always be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious persons or activity right away.
