Middletown Man Arrested For Stealing Car In PA: Police

A 2017 Nissan Altima was stolen from a Dunkin' Donuts in Allentown, PA on Feb. 19.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — A car stolen in Pennsylvania was recovered in the Hudson Valley after a crash with a police car. State Police said they were made aware the week of Feb. 19 that a vehicle stolen near Allentown, PA may have been spotted in the Middletown area. A 2017 Nissan Altima was stolen from a Dunkin’ Donuts in Allentown on Feb. 19.

The State Police saw the car while patrolling Route 17m in the Town of Wallkill. When police tried to stop it, the car fled the scene.

Troopers pursued the car into the City of Middletown where it struck a Middletown marked police car.

The driver of the car was identified as John Redner, 44, of Middletown.

He was treated at Orange Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

A Middletown police officer was also treated at the medical center for minor injuries and was released.

Redner, who is on parole, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies. He was also charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest and driving while ability impaired by drugs, misdemeanors.

After arraignment in the Town of Wallkill Court, Redner was sent to the Orange County Jail with no bail set.

State Police at Middletown were assisted by the City of Middletown Police Department, State Police at Wurtsboro, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
