Millbrook Mayor Charged with Stealing Funds from Town
She was accused of taking more than $1,700 from town funds.

MILLBROOK, NY — The former bookkeeper for the Town of Washington, who is the mayor of Millbrook, was arrested Thursday for stealing town funds.
State Police said Laura M. Hurley, 52, of Millbrook, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, and official misconduct, a misdemeanor.
A town official reported in January that Hurley had taken more than $1,700 from the town to pay a family member’s college loans, police said.

Hurley's lawyer said she accidentally paid a personal bill from a municipal account.
The misappropriation of funds were said to have occurred between March 2014 and July 2015, when Hurley was employed as the town’s bookkeeper.

Hurley was arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and released on her own recognizance.
She is scheduled to appear back in court October 20.
