New Windsor Cab Driver Makes Plea In Rape Accusations
In both instances, he picked up the women who wanted to go home by the Newburgh waterfront.

NEW WINDSOR, NY — A cab driver, who was accused of raping two women he picked up as fares pleaded guilty Monday, March 12. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said Javier Alexander Vilchez Salazar, 34, of New Windsor, admitted he was guilty of two counts of first-degree rape.
Hoovler said Vilchez Salazar, on two separate occasions — Sept. 3, 2017, and Nov. 12, 2017 — said he was driving a cab by the waterfront in Newburgh when he picked up two different women who were looking for a cabs to go home.
He said he drove both of them to the vicinity of Lake Street in the Town of New Windsor and forced them into having sexual intercourse.

At the time Vilchez Salazar pleaded guilty, Hoovler’s office said it would recommend he be sentenced to 21 years in state prison and 10 years post-release supervision.
His sentencing is scheduled for May 3.

“I commend the police officers whose investigation stopped this defendant from continuing these heinous predatory attacks on unsuspecting women who were merely trying to get home safely,” Hoovler said. “The bravery and tenacity of the survivors of these attacks in coming forward and cooperating with law enforcement is to be admired, and was indispensable to the successful prosecution of this case.”
