Newburgh Man Accused Of Assault, Robbery, Resisting Arrest
Police said the man initially gave a fake name to a trooper.
NEWBURGH, NY — A city of Newburgh man was accused of injuring a state trooper and resisting arrest after leading police on a foot chase.
The New York State Police said Antwonn J. Williams Jr., 25, of the city of Newburgh was charged Monday with second-degree assault and third-degree robbery, felonies, second-degree menacing, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration and false personation, misdemeanors, and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Police said a trooper saw a blue BMW going south on Dubois Street in the city in violation of the state's vehicle and traffic law.

The trooper stopped the car and interviewed the driver, who identified himself as Davata Williams. That was determined to be a fake name, police said.
Williams got out of the car, pushed the trooper and began running south on Dubois Street.

He continued onto North Miller Street where he began fighting with the trooper, police said.
During the fight, Williams got ahold of the trooper's stun gun and tried to use it, according to authorities. When that didn't work, he took off on foot again.
He was caught after a short pursuit, police said.
The trooper was injured and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he was treated and released.
Williams was identified by a City of Newburgh police officer and was found to have an active warrant issued by New York State Parole.
He was virtually arraigned in the City of Middletown Court and was sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, $25,000 bond or $100,000 partially secured bond.
