Newburgh Man Faces Felonies for Driving Drunk

A previous DWI conviction required him to have a Breathalyzer-type device in his car, police said.

CORNWALL, NY — A Newburgh man faces felony charges as a result of being stopped for a speeding violation.

State Police said Alejandro Martinez, 29, was pulled over around 5:26 a.m. Tuesday on I-87 for driving faster than the speed limit.

Martinez was found to be intoxicated, police said, and he was driving with a revoked license from a prior DWI conviction.

Additionally, he is required to drive a vehicle that has an ignition interlock device to prevent him from driving if he had been drinking.

Martinez was taken to the Newburgh barracks for processing, where his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.08 percent.

He was charged with the following:

  • Driving while intoxicated, a felony
  • First-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony
  • Operating a motor vehicle with no ignition interlock device, a misdemeanor
  • Multiple vehicle and traffic violations

Martinez was arraigned in the Town of Cornwall Court and released on his own recognizance to return October 20.
