Newburgh Man Gets 13 Years For Criminal Weapon Possession
After menacing others with a gun, he was found in a car with the loaded gun and matching ammo in his pocket.

ORANGE COUNTY, NY — Prosecutors say a steep sentence for a Newburgh man will send a message to "dangerous criminals who illegally possess and use dangerous firearms."
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Thursday, 31-year-old Rudolph Davis, of Newburgh, was sentenced in Orange County Court to 13 years in prison to be followed by five years of post-release supervision after having been convicted in July of second degree criminal possession of a weapon, after a jury trial.
According to court documents, on November 5, 2023, around 1:05 a.m., Town of Montgomery Police Department officers responded to a report of an individual menacing others with a gun in the Village of Maybrook. Police found a van matching the description in the complaint driving away from the location.

When the officers stopped the vehicle, they found it to be driven by a woman, who was separately charged, with Davis as the front seat passenger. A search of the vehicle resulted in police recovering a loaded 9mm handgun in the center console. Davis had additional rounds matching the gun in his pocket, which also matched rounds located at the scene of the original incident.
"Dangerous criminals who illegally possess and use dangerous firearms must be held accountable," Hoovler said. "All too frequently we see wanton violence committed with the use of illegally possessed guns. My Office, together with our law enforcement partners, remain steadfast in our commitment to the pursuit of illegally possessed firearms and the offenders who wield them. Our community demands and deserves nothing less than this unwavering commitment."
