Newburgh Woman Accused Of Drug Possession, Drunken Driving

Police were initially called to check out a person who was sick outside of a car on the Thruway.

NEWBURGH, NY — A Newburgh woman was accused of having illegal drugs and drunken driving while on the Thruway.

The New York State Police said, around 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, troopers were sent to Interstate 87 in the town of Bethlehem for a report of a sick person outside of a vehicle.

It was determined that Destiny S. Pettway, 30, of Newburgh, was intoxicated and in possession of narcotics and several stolen credit cards, police said.

According to authorities, a search of her car found about 4.12 grams of crack cocaine, 171 hits of suboxone, 3 grams of cocaine and 5 ounces of pills, including Xanax, hydrocodone and oxycodone.

Pettway was taken by ambulance to Albany Medical Center where she refused a chemical test of blood draw to determine the alcohol and drug content in her system, police said.

She was released from the hospital to the custody of the state police and was taken to the Albany barracks for processing.

Pettway was charged with:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (narcotics), a felony
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a felony
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony
  • Fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony
  • Four counts of criminal possession of stolen property, felonies
  • Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor
  • Driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor

A virtual arraignment was conducted in the Town of Bethlehem Court where Pettway was sent to Albany County Jail without bail because of the second-degree drug possession charge and a bench warrant for a charge of first-degree assault with a weapon, a felony, out of the Schenectady Police Department.
