NJ Man Arrested For ID Theft, Forging Check

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

PHILMONT, NY — A man from New Jersey was arrested for allegedly stealing someone's identity and cashing a forged check. State police said John J. Houdershieldt, 42, of Bayonne, New Jersey, was charged Oct. 26 with first-degree identity theft and fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies.

Troopers at the Livingston barracks received a complaint Oct. 17 about a possible theft from someone's bank account.

Over the following week, investigators determined Houdershieldt forged a check in the victim's name and stole $3,000, police said.

He was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court and released on his own recognizance.

Houdershieldt is scheduled to appear in the Village of Philmont Court Nov. 6.
