Nursing Home Worker Arrested After Slapping A Resident Under Her Care: NYSP

State police say the 65-year-old smacked an elderly resident at the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, in Staatsburg.

STAATSBURG, NY — A Dutchess County caregiver has been arrested after being accused of slapping a patient in her care.

The New York State Police say that on Jan. 26, troopers from Rhinebeck were called to the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, on Albany Post Road in Staatsburg, after receiving a request for a welfare check.

NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Rhinebeck investigators said that 65-year-old Valerie A. Giblin, of Staatsburg, slapped the resident while the resident was under her care.

Giblin was arrested on Wednesday, and charged with the misdemeanor of second-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.

She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Hyde Park Town Court on Feb. 17.
