POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — In honor of American Heart Month, Nuvance Health donated a piece of medical technology that could be used to help visitors to a local shelter for victims of domestic violence. An automated external defibrillator — otherwise known as an AED — was presented to the Grace Smith House, which is located in Poughkeepsie.

Tim Massie, senior vice president of marketing, public affairs and government relations for Nuvance Health and Heart Center cardiologist Dr. Sunny Intwala presented the AED to Branka Bryan, the shelter's executive director, and Nina Schutzman, the development coordinator, at the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Contact Breakfast, held Feb. 19.

Bryan said she was extremely grateful to Nuvance for the donation.

“We hope the defibrillator is never put to use, but in the event one of our residents should need it, Nuvance Health’s donation gives us a sense of security knowing this lifesaving device is nearby,” she said.
