Orange County Man Sentenced To Prison For Killing Suspected Rapist

Official said he disregarded instructions to have no contact with the victim.

GOSHEN, NY — An Orange County man found guilty of killing a suspected rapist will go to prison.

David Carlson, 45, of Sparrow Bush, was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge Robert Freehill to five years in state prison, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. announced Tuesday.

Carlson had been convicted by a jury Nov. 14, 2016, of first-degree manslaughter, a felony, related to the death of Norris Acosta-Sanchez.

He even brought Acosta-Sanchez into his family to teach his children Spanish.

A couple of months later, Carlson learned the man was wanted in Rockland County for having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Carlson called the police, and they stopped Acosta-Sanchez near Carlson’s house for questioning.

Two days later, Acosta-Sanchez knocked on Carlson’s door and was met with a loaded shotgun.

Carlson marched Acosta-Sanchez down his driveway and shot him twice.

Janet DiFiore, who was Westchester County District Attorney at the time, said Carlson’s actions “tragically resulted in this outcome” because he disregarded police instructions to not have contact with the victim and let police handle the situation.

Carlson was remanded into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.
