Pair Accused Of Drug Possession After Traffic Stop In Orange

One of the people in the car had a billy club, police said.

NEWBURGH, NY — A traffic stop in the town of Newburgh led to accusations of drug possession for a pair of people from Orange County. The New York State Police said troopers stopped a 2015 Nissan Altima Wednesday on Route 17K for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

Police said Roy Brown, 59, of the city of Newburgh, was identified as the driver.

While speaking with him, troopers said they found out there was a "billy club" in the car.

A search of the car found a black wooden baton with a leather strap, glassine envelopes containing about 14 grams of fentanyl, several pills of alprazolam and oxycodone, police said. Also, during a search of the passenger — Alexis Lynch, 29, of New Windsor — police said they found about 10 grams of crack-cocaine on her.

Brown and Lynch were taken into custody.

Brown was charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Lynch was charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and manufacturing drug-related paraphernalia, misdemeanors.

They were virtually arraigned before the Town of Newburgh Court.

Because of previous felony convictions, Brown was sent to the Orange County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to reappear in court Aug. 18.

Lynch was released on her own recognizance to return to court Sept 15 in the Town of New Windsor Court.
