Passengers Of Small Plane Crash ID'd: Sheriff's Office

WAPPINGER, NY — The names of the Ohio family in the small plane that crashed Friday afternoon short of the runway of the Hudson Valley Regional Airport have been released. A spokesman for the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said the pilot, David Scott, 50, from Ohio, had to be extricated from the wreckage by firefighters.

He was taken from the crash site by off-road utility vehicle and then transported to Westchester Medical Center by helicopter due to his critical condition, the sheriff's office said.

Scott's passengers — Tara Scott, 50, Jocelyn Scott, 20, and Ryan Scott, 17, all from Ohio — were taken from the crash site by ambulance to local hospitals.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat from Cold Spring, released a statement saying that the Scotts are members of his extended family.

"Yesterday afternoon, members of our extended family were critically injured in a small plane crash in Dutchess County," Maloney said.

"While we're still learning more, Randy and I want to extend our appreciation to the first responders and local authorities who were on the scene, as well as the medical teams working to treat our family's injuries," he said.

"We as that you keep David and Tara Scott, and their kids, Jocelyn and Ryan, in your prayers as they continue to undergo treatment," Maloney said.

Randy Florke is Maloney's husband. The Scotts are Florke’s brother-in-law’s family, according to a spokesman.

The Piper PA 46 plane was traveling from Ohio to Rhode Island when David Scott reported a low fuel emergency to flight control, according to authorities. Flight control then contacted the control tower at Hudson Valley Regional Airport.

Scott attempted to make an emergency landing but crashed about a mile and a half east of the airport.

Authorities said the crash occurred in a densely wooded area near the intersection of Maloney and Smith Crossing roads.

Rescue personnel had to reach the crash site by off-road utility vehicles from the sheriff's office, state police and the New Hamburg and East Fishkill fire departments.

"All of our first responders worked side by side under adverse conditions to locate and rescue the victim in this plane crash," said Sheriff Adrian Anderson.

The coordinated rescue operation included New Hackensack Fire, LaGrange Fire, Hughsonville Fire, East Fishkill Fire, New Hamburg Fire, EMStar, Mobile Life, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, Dutchess County Department of Public Works, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, New York State Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration are continuing the investigation into the crash.
