Phony $100 Bills Popping Up In Dutchess Community: Police

They're being distributed at businesses, police said.

DUTCHESS COUNTY, NY — Police in the village of Millerton warned residents Tuesday that counterfeit money is again circulating in the community.

So far it's $100 bills, police said. Again, they said, they are being distributed through businesses.

If you feel that you have received any counterfeit money contact the department at 518-789-6355, police said.

Loss Prevention Magazine published an article in March about "How to Spot Counterfeit Money." Among other tips, look for color-shifting inks, watermarks, raised printing and security threads.
