Poughkeepsie Domestic Dispute Yields Stabbing, Arson Accusations

When firefighters arrived at the home, it was an active crime scene.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A 59-year-old man was accused of stabbing another person and setting fire to the person's home.

The City Poughkeepsie PBA said, in a Facebook post, Edward Plummer, 59, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, second-degree arson and second-degree assault, felonies, and two counts of second-degree menacing, misdemeanors.

Police officials said first-responders were sent to Radcliffe Road around 8:45 a.m. Sunday for a report of a domestic disturbance where one person had been stabbed.

Officers located the victim as he was being taken to the hospital in a private car and immediately rendered aid and called for medical assistance.

Officials said responders to Radcliffe Road found Plummer had damaged property and set the home on fire.

Plummer was located as he tried to flee the area in a car.

A pursuit began and he was followed back to the residence where he crashed into the building, police said.

Plummer got out of his car and confronted officers while armed with a weapon.

Police used a stun gun to immobilize Plummer, after which he was taken into custody.

The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department NY Local 596 posted on Facebook that firefighters had been advised the Radcliffe location was an active crime scene.

After Plummer was taken into custody, firefighters were able to begin extinguishing the blaze, the majority of which was in the front living room and adjacent kitchen.

Officials said numerous gas cans were found in a rear bedroom.

The fire was declared out shortly after 9 p.m.

Police said two officers were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and are expected to recover. The man who was stabbed is also expected to recover from his injuries.
