Remembering 9/11 In Mid-Hudson Valley

Many ceremonies marking the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks are being held virtually this year due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — There are events around the mid-Hudson Valley commemorating the lives lost during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as those who died because of illnesses related to the attacks. Florida: 9/11 ceremony at the monument between the Florida Fire Department and village hall. 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday

Montgomery: Orange County Patriot Day Ceremony, Orange County Arboretum, Thomas Bull Memorial Park. 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. All guests must wear masks and practice social distancing during the program. Keynote speaker will be William Bratton Jr. who lost his daughter Michelle in the attacks.

Poughkeepsie: Memorial service to remember the victims of Sept. 11 will be held on the steps of the Dutchess County Family Court building, 50 Market St., Poughkeepsie, at 8:30 a.m Friday. The service will include a ceremonial lowering of the flag and a moment of silence to recall those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Dr. Edward Hunt, pastor of Beth-El Missionary Baptist Church of Wappingers Falls, will lead attendees in prayer. An honor guard composed of officers of the Office of Court Administration will attend in recognition of their brethren who died during rescue efforts on Sept. 11. The public is welcome and invited to attend but are reminded to maintain proper physical distancing and wear face coverings for this event.

City of Poughkeepsie: 9/11 Memorial Service — In conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie, the City of Poughkeepsie will hold a 9/11 Memorial Service at City Hall at 9:30 a.m. Friday. City AdministratorMarc Nelson will officiate. The public is invited to attend. Attendees must maintain proper physical distancing and wear a face covering to attend this event. In the event of inclement weather, the Memorial Service will be held inside City Hall.

Wappinger: The Town of Wappinger will conduct the annual September 11th Remembrance Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Sergeant Mark C. Palmateer 9/11 Memorial Park, at the corner of Route 9 and Old Hopewell Road. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, in-person attendance will be reduced and the service will be live-streamed and rebroadcast on the town cable channels. For those in attendance, face coverings must be used by all participants and attendees and social distancing will be required.

Wappingers Falls: 9/11 Memorial Service 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Mesier Park, Wappingers Falls. The program will be a simple memorial service to honor all our fallen heroes. Guest speakers will focus on prayer, patriotism and national unity. We ask that all those attending be mindful that this is a memorial service and that all in attendance be respectful of the solemnity of the occasion.
Warwick: Warwick Fire Department 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. 9/11 Memorial, Veterans Memorial Park, 60 Forester Ave.
