State Of Emergency Declared For Southern Dutchess County
Travel restrictions are in place in order to help clear roadways and downed wires. breaking

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A state of emergency has been declared for the southern area of Dutchess County in the wake of severe thunderstorms that knocked down trees and wires. County Executive Marc Molinaro, in consultation with the county Department of Emergency Response, Department of Public Works and the sheriff’s office, issued an emergency order effective at 6 p.m. Tuesday restricting travel in parts of the county including the City of Beacon, Town and Village of Fishkill, Town of Wappinger and Village of Wappingers Fall.
The emergency order restricts travel on all roadways in those areas until further notice.
“Conditions are extremely hazardous in certain areas, particularly the southern Dutchess area,” Molinaro sad. “Emergency crews are out in force addressing situations as quickly as possible, but it is important that non-essential traffic stays off the road in these areas.”

The emergency order, which is enforceable by local, county and state law enforcement agencies, states, “Travel on roadways in Dutchess County is restricted except for medical and health facility personnel, law enforcement and public safety personnel, first responders, utility, maintenance and public works personnel, clearing operations, personnel, facility operations persons deemed necessary for plant operations by their employers and public and government personnel involved in the emergency operations.”
