Dutchess County just amended its state of emergency to include a temporary ban on parking cars on any public roadway.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a ban Tuesday morning of tractor trailers on the New York State Thruway and select interstates, including I-84. Read more here.

The MTA announced that Metro-North will suspend service at noon.
Orange County activated the County’s Emergency Operations Center at 6 a.m. on Tuesday in response to the major snowstorm hitting the region.
A State of Emergency has been declared in Orange County and will remain in effect from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.on Tuesday. The declaration prohibits non-essential travel on all county and local roads. All county offices are closed on Tuesday and, unless specifically directed to, employees should not report for work.
A countywide state of emergency has been declared for Dutchess County. It went into effect at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and will remain in effect until officially rescinded. The state of emergency restricts travel on all roadways within Dutchess County. All county government offices, including courts and parks, are closed Tuesday, with only essential county personnel reporting. All county Public Transit bus service is canceled for Tuesday.
The declaration states:
“All roadways in Dutchess are closed and traffic is prohibited except for: medical and health facility personnel, law enforcement and public safety personnel, first responders, utility, maintenance and public works personnel, snow removal sanding, salting and clearing operations personnel, facility operations persons deemed necessary for plant operations by their employers and public and government personnel involved in the emergency operations.”
Dutchess, Orange and Ulster counties were upgraded to Blizzard Warning status by the National Weather Service.
Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for all 62 New York counties to begin at midnight Tuesday. Above-ground subway will be suspended at 4 a.m. and it’s likely NYC buses, LIRR and Metro-North will be suspended Tuesday.

With 12-24 inches of snow expected in the Hudson Valley, NYC and Long Island, and 8-16 inches upstate, the State Emergency Operations Center will open Monday evening. State agencies have already pre-positioned personnel, assets, and state stockpile resources — including sandbags, generators and pumps — to areas of the state where the storm will be at its strongest.

The State Police have cautioned motorists to be careful with traveling during the snowstorm and to allow extra time to drive slower.
Officials with Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation are advising local residents to be prepared for the major snowstorm headed for the Northeast. The utility is completing all stages of its own preparation for a major storm emergency, including the confirmation of all necessary resources.
"With a potential for as much as two feet of snow forecast for our region, we are also urging customers to take every precaution to be ready in the event of resulting service interruptions," said Senior Vice President of Customer Services and Transmission and Distribution Charles A. Freni. "While we invest year round in our infrastructure and in programs to remove trees and other vegetation from our lines, heavy snow, high winds and/or icing all have the potential to impact our facilities in a storm of this magnitude."
Freni recommended that customers act now to prepare for the storm as following:
PREPARE NOW:
- Pay attention to weather advisories, storm outage updates and/or shelter information.
- Charge electronic devices in order to connect with https://StormCentral.CenHud.com.
- Keep handy a flashlight and fresh batteries.
- Have a battery-powered radio to remain informed of restoration efforts.
- Confirm adequate packaged or canned foods that require no refrigeration or cooking.
- Avoid opening a refrigerator unnecessarily during outages, so that food lasts longer.
- Have a non-electric can opener.
- Keep an emergency supply of bottled water on hand for drinking and washing.
- Fill bathtubs with water as added reserves.
"Remember to never use outdoor gas or charcoal grills indoors. They pose a fire hazard, and over time can give off deadly carbon monoxide gas. Use these appliances only outdoors with proper ventilation," Freni said. He also advised customers to know how to open their garage door manually if they usually rely on an electrically operated, remote-control door opener.
The attorney general of New York reminded people that during a snow emergency there is the possible that others will try to take advantage of the situation and raise prices.
