Suspect In Theft Ring That Targeted Asian Homeowners Nabbed: Police
The Colombian national was subject to removal as an illegal alien, feds said. After his arrest, an Immigration Detainer was issued.
TOWN OF NEW WINDSOR, NY — A multi-agency task force is reporting an arrest connected to a string of burglaries in the region targeting Asian families.
After a nearly three-month-long investigation into a residential burglary that took place in the Town of New Windsor in November 2024, detectives from the Town of New Windsor Police Department, along with the NYPD Queens North Burglary Apprehension & Investigative Team, the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, New York State Police, and Homeland Security Investigations, executed a search warrant on Feb. 20 in Queens.
The search warrant led to the recovery of around $35,000 in U.S. cash, large amounts of foreign currency, high-end designer handbags, high-end watches, jewelry, cellular phone signal jammers, walkie talkies, several out-of-state license plates, and burglar's tools, according to officials.

Andres Felipe Solarzano Charry, 21, of Flushing, was arrested and charged with felony second-degree burglary and felony second-degree grand larceny.
Officials said that it appears that he is part of an international theft group, and specifically targeted homeowners of Asian descent.

Investigators said that Charry, a citizen of Colombia, was subject to removal as an illegal alien. Following his arrest, an Immigration Detainer was issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
"Great work by the Detectives on this case and thank you to all of our law enforcement partners for their assistance," Police Chief Daniel Valeri said. "The safety and security of our residents is of the utmost importance and we strive to provide the highest level of service."
Detectives were assisted by investigators from the Orange County District Attorney's Office and Investigator Tunney of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
"I would like to commend New Windsor Police Detective Francis Pierri for leading this investigation as well as all others involved," Town Supervisor Stephen Bedetti added. "Months of hard work brought this case to a successful closure with the arrest of this subject. Our exceptionally talented police officers always go above and beyond to serve our residents. Criminals should take note. You will get caught in New Windsor."
