SUV, Fire Vehicle Crash Injures 2, Kills 1 Dog

Police said the SUV crashed into a fire vehicle that was parked, with emergency lights on, in the interstate's passing lane.

GREENVILLE, NY — A crash involving a car and a fire police truck injured the car's driver and killed one of the dogs that were traveling with her. State police said around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, troopers responded to the crash on Interstate 84 in Greenville in Orange County.

The investigation found that a Greenville fire police truck — a Ford F550 — was parked in the passing lane of the eastbound highway with emergency lights activated.

Authorities said the fire vehicle was blocking the lane for a vehicle crash that was about a half-mile ahead. A full-size fire truck was parked a quarter-mile ahead of the fire vehicle in the passing lane, also blocking the passing lane.

One of the dogs was killed in the crash, police said.

Hostetler received injuries to her head, arms, legs and back, none of which were life-threatening. She was taken by ambulance to Orange Regional Medical Center. The child was not injured.

The driver of the fire vehicle, Kevin Gillespie, 44, of Port Jervis, suffered a back injury and was taken by ambulance to Orange Regional Medical Center. His passenger, Robert Conti, 53, from Port Jervis, was not injured.
