Symposium set for younger dementia caregivers
Alzheimer's Association to host panel discussion and more on April 12

NEWBURGH - The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter will hold a free symposium, “Alzheimer’s Diaries: The Younger Caregiver Experience” at Hudson Hall Auditorium at Mount Saint Mary College from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 12.
This event will explore and highlight younger caregivers’ experiences, while also shedding light on free resources the Alzheimer's Association offers throughout the Hudson Valley. Some participants will share by reading from their journals. Teresa Santos, care coordinator for the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease at Montefiore Health System’s Center for the Aging Brain, will discuss ways to utilize music as a way of keeping a connection with those we who have dementia.
“Our goal is to remove the stigma of old age associated with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Younger individuals under age 65 are also affected – and one out of every six people are considered younger caregivers,” said Cody Medina, community engagement manager and diversity specialist for the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter. “Bridging the gap between this misconception on all levels of care will help us work together to provide the support needed both on a personal and educational level.”
