Teachers Union President Accused Of Stealing Union Funds

Authorities said the funds were stolen while the man was president from 2017 to 2020.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A teachers union official was accused of stealing from the organization while he was president.

The New York State Police said James G. Fitzmaurice, 51, of Poughkeepsie, was charged with second-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, felonies.

Police said an investigation found Fitzmaurice stole, by misappropriating, more than $150,000 from the Dutchess County BOCES Faculty Association while he served as the union's president from 2017 to 2020.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Poughkeepsie Court Dec. 8.
