Thunderstorms May Bring Lightning, Hail, And Heavy Rain To Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A cold front will sweep through the Hudson Valley today, bringing the chance for thunderstorms, potentially damaging winds and even hail, according to meteorologists.
A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for southeast New York, including Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.
“Thunderstorm development is expected this afternoon and evening with a cold frontal passage,” the National Weather Service said. “A severe thunderstorm is possible, with damaging winds the main threat.”

While the primary risk is for damaging winds, large hail might also happen, according to the National Weather Service.
The greatest risk for storms is after 2 p.m., the National Weather Service reports.

Daytime high temperatures today will be in the upper 80s to low 90s. After the cold front passes through today, much cooler temperatures and lower humidity will arrive, meteorologists said.
Thursday and Friday are expected to be dry, with daytime high temperatures around 70 degrees.
The long holiday weekend is expected to be a wet one, with showers in the forecast for Saturday through Memorial Day. Both Saturday and Sunday will be cool, with highs in the low 60s, though temperatures will rebound slightly on Monday, reaching the mid-70s, according to the National Weather Service.
