Tornado Touches Down In Hudson Valley, Weather Service Says

The EF1-rated twister destroyed a shed and damaged numerous trees.

MILLBROOK, NY — Severe weather Friday in the mid-Hudson Valley resulted in a tornado touching down near Millbrook in the town of Washington.

The National Weather Service said Saturday an EF1-rated tornado happened around 11:15 a.m. Friday.

There was a 2.5-mile path of an estimated width of 100 to 200 yards, the weather service said, with an estimated maximum wind speed of 90 mph.

No injuries or deaths were reported.

The touchdown was southwest of Killearn Road and the path ended northeast of Butts Hollow Road.

Numerous trees were damaged, and falling trees damaged a number of homes and cars. One farm shed near the intersection of Route 343 and Little Rest Road was destroyed.

The information in the weather service's statement was preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS storm data.

The strength of a tornado is measured by enhanced F-scale rating from EF0 to EF5.
