State Trooper Shoots Woman After Confrontation With Long Gun

Police were called to a New Lebanon home for a report of a suicidal person.

NEW LEBANON, NY — The New York State Police have identified the person who was shot by a trooper during a confrontation with a long gun Thursday.

State police said they were called to a home on Route 22 in the town of New Lebanon around 10:30 a.m. Thursday for a report of a suicidal person.

Authorities said Sarah Craddock, 40, pointed a long gun at the troopers.

The troopers who responded to the call were identified as Trooper Erica Rodriguez and Trooper Nathaniel Chernewsky.

A preliminary investigation revealed during the troopers’ interaction with Craddock she pointed a long gun at them.

Chernewsky fired from a division-issued shotgun and hitting Craddock in the abdomen.

Troopers immediately rendered medical attention and she was taken to Albany Medical Center.

No one else was injured.

Chernewsky has been with the New York State Police for more than one year; Rodriguez for three years. Both are assigned to Troop K.
