Veterans Day 2017: What’s Open And Closed In Mid-Hudson Valley
Veterans Day falls on a Saturday this year, so many agencies and organizations are observing the holiday on Friday.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The nation will be honoring the men and women who have served in the military on Veterans Day Saturday, Nov. 11. While Saturday is the actual date, because it falls on the weekend this year, the federal government is observing it on Friday, Nov. 10. As a result, many state and local governments and schools will be closed on Friday also.
Federal offices that are non-essential will be closed Friday, as will New York State government offices.
Post offices will be open on Friday, but closed on Saturday. There will be no mail delivery on Saturday.

Banks have the option of closing for Veterans Day. TD Bank will be open, for example, but Bank of America’s financial centers will be closed on Saturday. Call before you head out to do your banking.
The stock market will be open on Friday.

Retail establishments will likely be open since holidays have become times for sales. Again, it’s best to call ahead to be sure the store you are going to will be open.
The City of Poughkeepsie and Town of Poughkeepsie government offices will be closed Friday. There will be no trash pickup in the City of Poughkeepsie. Kingston and Newburgh city offices will also be closed Friday. For other municipalities, call or check their websites.
Poughkeepsie schools will be closed Friday. Dutchess Community College will be having classes Friday. Check the websites of other educational institutions to see if they are open.
Some libraries will be open during the weekend and some will close either or both days. It would be best to check the library’s website or call them to make certain they are open.
