Victim, Driver ID'd In Fatal 2-Vehicle, Head-On Collision On Rte 17

A 23-year-old box truck driver had been driving north when he entered the southbound lanes and struck a Honda driven by a 37-year-old.

New York State Police say that on Friday, around 4:02 a.m., troopers were called to State Route 17, in the village of Harriman, after receiving a report of a two-vehicle fatal accident involving a box truck.

HARRIMAN, NY — Police have identified the victims of a fatal head-on collision involving a commercial truck.

New York State Police say that on Friday, around 4:02 a.m., troopers were called to State Route 17, in the village of Harriman, after receiving a report of a two-vehicle, fatal accident involving a box truck.

Once on the scene, police saw a box truck and a black Honda on the west shoulder of the roadway.

Investigators believe the box truck, driven by 23-year-old Mohammed Abdulla, of Richmond, Virginia, was traveling north on Route 17 when he entered the southbound lanes, striking a Honda, driven by 37-year-old Edwin A. Ottenwalder Nunez, of Middletown, causing a head-on collision.

Ottenwalder Nunez was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police say that the investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call SP Monroe BCI at 845-344-5300.
