Violating Order Of Protection Leads to 14 Felony Charges: Sheriff

The 37-year-old was charged with 14 counts of felony criminal contempt and 14 counts of misdemeanor aggravated harassment.

ULSTER COUNTY, NY — Police say a man's campaign of phone and cyber-harrrassment could have serious consequences.

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office said that a 37-year-old man from Wurtsboro was arrested after an investigation into violation of an order of protection.

On August 25, deputies responded to a home in the Town of Rochester after reports of a violation of an order of protection. Police found that the man had made multiple phone calls and sent emails to the protected party named in an order of protection issued by the Ulster County Family Court.

After eforts to find him at that time were unsuccessful, deputies then obtained a warrant of arrest from the Town of Rochester Justice Court.

On September 12, the man was apprehended at a home in Sullivan County by the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force, which includes members from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office. He was then taken to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

The 37-year-old was charged with 14 counts of felony first degree criminal contempt and 14 counts of misdemeanor second degree aggravated harassment.

He was arraigned in Kingston City Court and was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of cash bail or a secured bond. The man is scheduled to appear in the Town of Rochester Justice Court in the future.
