Walkway Over the Hudson To Open Volunteer Pavilions For Season

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — With temperatures in the upper 60s Saturday — in spite of being mostly cloudy, according to the forecast — it is going to feel like spring this weekend. And what better way to mark the occasional than taking a short drive to a remarkable state park: The Walkway Over the Hudson.

The Walkway will be opening its merchandise and volunteer pavilions for the season at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30.

Staffed by the volunteer Ambassadors, the pavilions offer the opportunity to purchase merchandise, learn about Walkway membership, receive assistance or ask questions about the bridge and the surrounding area.

Ambassadors are trained to provide information about local restaurants, hotels and other attractions of note.

The pavilions will be open every from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday, as well as on other high-traffic days and during special events.

Merchandise for sale includes Walkway logo T-shirts, hats stickers, pins, postcards, souvenirs and more.

The Walkway Over the Hudson is a former railroad bridge and spans the Hudson River and connects the City of Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County with the Town of Lloyd and hamlet of Highland in Ulster County.

There is nearby free parking and fee-based lots operated by NYS Parks near both entrances to the Walkway; in Poughkeepsie at 61 Parker Avenue and in Highland at 87 Haviland Road.

Stairs to the start of the Walkway in Poughkeepsie are located at 129 Washington Street. An elevator operates from Upper Landing Park, 82 North Water Street in Poughkeepsie.

Access is also provided from the Hudson Valley Rail Trail.
