This year's Westchester Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Sunday, Oct. 4, but it will look different than in previous years. Instead of a large gathering at SUNY Purchase, the walk will be held in neighborhoods throughout Westchester as participants walk in small groups.

At 10 a.m., there will be a virtual opening ceremony, after which participants will begin walking. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s app will track steps and offer encouragement along the way.

There will also be a Car Caravan on Oct. 4 from White Plains Eastview Middle School to The Ambassador of Scarsdale. Participants will line up in the school parking lot from 11-11:30 a.m. and the caravan will start at 11:30 a.m. Cars will be decorated in purple and Walk to End Alzheimer’s flags to help raise Alzheimer’s awareness. The caravan will wind through the streets of White Plains and end up at the View-Only Drive-By Flower Garden at The Ambassador of Scarsdale. For those who cannot take part in the caravan but would like to see the flower garden, it will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Visit WestchesterWalk.org to register or make a donation.

Funds support programs and services

Money raised from the event helps support the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter's programs and service, which are being offered online and by phone during the COVID-19 pandemic. These include care consultations, where families affected by dementia can speak with a licensed social worker about helpful community resources as well as support groups where caregivers, family members, and people in the early stage of the disease can share their experiences with others who understand.
