2 Arrested For Climbing Empire State Building Antenna, Police Say

The Empire State Building is more than 1,453 feet tall.

MIDTOWN, NY — New York City Police Department officials arrested two people after they were discovered climbing the antenna at the very top of the Empire State Building on Wednesday.

According to the NYPD, the man and woman were spotted around noon on Wednesday.

Pictures from CBS News show two masked people dressed in all black at the tip of the building, waving a black flag with white lettering on it. The flag says, "When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace" in a blocky font, according to the CBS photos.

According to ABC News, the masked man was seen proposing to his partner in crime after hanging the flag.

The Empire State Building, located at 20 West 34th St. near Fifth Avenue, is more than 1,453 feet tall.

City officials have warned New Yorkers to expect road closures and law enforcement in the area around the Empire State Building. An NYPD helicopter was deployed, police said.

NYPD officials are investigating the incident as it develops. No arrests have been made yet.
