MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Nine people were arrested during a protest Wednesday night outside Trump Tower in Midtown, hours after a mob incited by President Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Protesters gathered outside the Fifth Avenue tower in opposition to ongoing immigration enforcement actions, and to demand that charges against Black Lives Matter protesters be dropped "in light of the massive and undeniable discrepancies in the response of law enforcement to BLM and MAGA protestors," according to tweets by activist groups and media outlets at the scene.
Videos showed protesters verbally clashing with NYPD officers near a line of barricades set up across Fifth Avenue at 57th Street, about a block south of Trump Tower.

One demonstrator told the New York Post that he joined the protest because he was "disgusted" by the day's events, which he called "a blatant disregard for fellow Americans and democratic norms."
Those arrested are facing charges including disorderly conduct and walking in the roadway, an NYPD spokesperson said. Seven other people received summonses.
