Penthouse Fire In Midtown Apartment Building Injures 2
A fire broke out Tuesday in the penthouse apartment of a building on West 58th Street, injuring two people and filling streets with smoke.
MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A fire broke out Tuesday morning in the apartment of a building on West 58th Street, prompting a large emergency response and filling nearby streets with smoke.
Crews responded just after 11 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a fire at 100 West 58th St., a 17-story apartment building near Sixth Avenue known as Windsor Park. The fire was burning inside the penthouse on the 16th and 17th floors, FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Michael Ajello told reporters.
More than 130 firefighters responded to the scene and were still working to put out the fire into the afternoon, as it escalated to a third alarm. It was finally brought under control shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Two firefighters were hospitalized with minor injuries, an FDNY spokesperson said.

Video from the scene showed firefighters breaking windows on a penthouse structure atop the brick building, while plumes of smoke pervaded the area around Central Park South.
