TIMES SQUARE, NY — Times Square is about to lose a little flavor. Celebrity chef Guy Fieri's Guy's American Bar & Kitchen will close after a five year run in the tourist hot spot, Eater New York first reported.
The restaurant will shut its doors after service on Dec. 31, Eater New York reported. Fieri did not reveal why the restaurant was closing, but thank his team and said he was "proud" of the restaurant in a statement sent to Eater New York.
When the restaurant opened in 2012 it was panned by critics such as the New York Times' Pete Wells, who asked "When you hung that sign by the entrance that says, WELCOME TO FLAVOR TOWN!, were you just messing with our heads?" Perhaps the flame-patterned bowling shirt-wearing, frosted-tips-having, donkey sauce-loving chef never stood a chance against the New York City elite.

Despite the negative reviews, Guy's American Kitchen & Bar remained open for five years. Tourists flocked to the eatery due to the star-power draw of Fieri, who stars in the ultra-popular "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." Fieri also drew his fair share of fanboys, who created a "Fiericon" bar crawl that ended up in the Times Square restaurant.
