Man Dies Weeks After NYC Hit-And-Run, Police Say

A 58-year-old man has died weeks after being struck by an SUV on 12th Avenue.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — A 58-year-old Westchester County man has died nearly a month after he was struck by an SUV in a Hell's Kitchen hit-and-run, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to an NYPD investigation, Matthew Meisel, 58, of Hartsdale, was lying in the roadway on southbound 12th Avenue near West 55th Street on May 16 at 6:25 p.m. when a southbound Honda SUV struck him near the intersection.

Police said the driver fled the scene following the collision.

Emergency responders transported Meisel to Mount Sinai West, where he was treated for his injuries, police said. He was pronounced dead on June 13, nearly four weeks after the crash, police said.

Meisel lived in Hartsdale, according to the NYPD.

No arrests have been made, police said. The crash is being investigated by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad.
