MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — In a rare construction feat, a flatbed truck and a crane were hoisted atop Tiffany & Co.'s flagship Midtown location this weekend as part of the iconic store's extensive renovation.
The 66-ton crane, affixed to a 10-wheel truck, was lifted seven stories by a giant, 105-ton crane onto the roof of the luxury retailer's building on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street Saturday morning.
It was only the fourth time in the history of New York construction that a crane has lifted another crane onto the roof of a building, according to Tiffany's.

Tiffany's is planning an ambitious expansion of their flagship store, which will add a glassy, three-story addition onto the existing limestone building. It is expected to open in 2022, as Tiffany's bets on Midtown's eventual comeback as a thriving retail hub despite current pandemic woes.
The upper addition will include exhibition and event space, as well as a terrace that overlooks Central Park and an upper floor with private showrooms.
